I, Bharat Bhushan Puri, and Anita Chopra, joined Punjab Agricultural University in 1975 in Deptt. Of Botany, College of Basic Sciences & Humanities for M.Sc. Program, after getting Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Junior Research Fellowship. I, belong to Moga, a small town and Anita belongs to Ludhiana. I completed my M.Sc. under the guidance of Dr. O.S. Singh and Anita completed her M.Sc. under the guidance of Dr. Bhatia. Thereafter, we both started pursuing for Ph.D. Anita had submitted her Synopsis under the guidance of Dr. Malik and got ICAR Fellowship and I pursued the same under the guidance of Dr. A.K. Gupta, Meerut University, after getting UGC Fellowship.
However, keeping in view totality of the circumstances, prevailing at that time, we had to discontinue our PhD and opted to join a corporate sector (banking) as our professional career in the year 1977. We got married in October 1979. Joining the bank was altogether a different and challenging experience but we enjoyed it a lot. We both had cleared certificate Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers Examination conducted by Indian Institute of Banking & Finance, Anita got distinction in said examination.
In my banking career, I always remained in commanding position as I worked as Credit Incharge throughout my career, looking after sanction of loans to big industrial houses. To sharpen my skill, the bank had deputed me to Hongkong to join a study workshop. The experience in handling credit proposals sharpened my anlytical skills so much that even professional Chartered Accountants were having my consultation before submitting loan documents to the bank. Anita got expertise in her banking career and faced all the challenges while working as branch head in Ludhiana, simultaneously taking care of the family. With her dedications, both of our daughters are medical doctors by profession and running their own clinics. Our son is an IIT alumnus and working in Google at its Europeon Head Quarter, Dublin (Ireland) as Data Scientist.
Now, we both are enjoying our retired life and settled in Ludhiana. After retirement, we have started our own consultancy company and providing financial consultancy to big industrial houses and I am also working as a financial advisor of Desh Bhagat University, Punjab. During this period of retirement, I am also conducting forensic audit of large business houses including ILFS on behalf of RBI for identifying fraud etc. Besides this, we are enjoying our retired life by having foreign trips and visiting Dublin to meet our son. At the end, I will say that I got Anita as wife only due to PAU Botany Deptt.
As both of us, are together since our University Life, we have a common story and are giving on behalf of both.
